The EU withdrawal button for PrestaShop, mandatory since 19 June 2026

Online Withdrawal is Flag Agency’s PrestaShop module that adds the online withdrawal function required by Directive (EU) 2023/2673: a “withdraw from contract here” button, a two-step declaration, and email confirmation with date, time and a PDF receipt. It works on PrestaShop 9 and costs €29 + VAT.

Is Online Withdrawal included in Flag Theme?

Yes: Online Withdrawal is one of the 24 modules included in Flag Theme, our PrestaShop 9 theme. If you’re about to change theme, Flag Theme already has it built in; if you like your current theme, just buy the module.

What is the withdrawal button and when did it become mandatory?

The withdrawal button is a clearly visible link, labelled “withdraw from contract here” or an equally clear wording, that leads to an online form for withdrawing from a purchase. It has been mandatory since 19 June 2026 for anyone selling online to consumers in the EU, for contracts concluded from that date.

  • Directive (EU) 2023/2673, which adds Article 11a to Directive 2011/83/EU: transposition by 19 December 2025, application from 19 June 2026 (text on EUR-Lex).
  • In Italy, Legislative Decree no. 209 of 31 December 2025 adds Article 54-bis to the Consumer Code, for contracts concluded from 19 June 2026.
  • What has to happen: the customer enters their name, identifies the order and the email, confirms with a “confirm withdrawal” button and immediately receives an acknowledgement on a durable medium, such as an email, with the declaration, date and time.

The button doesn’t replace the other ways to withdraw (email, model form, registered letter): it sits alongside them.

what it does

What does the Online Withdrawal module do?

  • The “withdraw from contract here” link, always within reach: in the footer of every page with Flag Theme, in the customer account and in the details of every order that can still be withdrawn from. The page has a simple address, /recesso by default (you can change it), and is added to the sitemap.
  • No login required: customers, guests included, find the order with reference and email; logged-in customers choose it from their order list.
  • Two steps: declaration (name, email, products and quantities or the whole order, optional reason), then summary and “confirm withdrawal” button.
  • Immediate result: case number, date and time, PDF receipt to download and return instructions.
  • Email to the customer with the declaration, date and time and the PDF receipt attached, plus an email to the shop.
  • Withdrawal period calculated automatically from delivery (14 days, or longer if you decide), with exclusions by category, product, virtual products, order status, customer group and B2B orders.
  • Cases in the back office, under Customer service › Withdrawals: statuses, notes, an email to the customer at every change and a panel on the order page.
  • Protection against guessing: a limit on failed searches and the same message for a non-existent order or a wrong email.
  • Works without JavaScript and is tested with automated WCAG 2.2 AA accessibility checks.
  • Retention: cases are anonymised after 10 years (you can change this).

What does the shop still have to do?

The module records the withdrawal and notifies you and the customer, but you issue the refund from the order in PrestaShop, within 14 days of the declaration as consumer law requires. Then you mark the case as “Refunded”.

Updated terms of sale (where the withdrawal function is, exceptions, model withdrawal form) and the review of the texts by your legal adviser are also up to you.

Frequently asked questions about the PrestaShop withdrawal button

Is the withdrawal button mandatory for my shop too?

Yes, if you sell online to consumers in the EU: since 19 June 2026 the online withdrawal function is mandatory for contracts concluded from that date. It doesn’t apply to sales between businesses, which have no consumer right of withdrawal: the module can exclude B2B orders.

Does the customer have to log in to withdraw?

No. Anyone, including guest customers, finds the order with the order reference and email. Customers who are already logged in choose the order from the list and find their name and email already filled in.

Can I exclude some products from withdrawal?

Yes: you can exclude categories, single products, virtual products, order statuses and customer groups, for example custom-made or perishable goods. Customers see them but can’t select them, and they read the reason.

Does the module also issue the refund?

No: it records the declaration and sends the confirmations. You issue the refund from the order in PrestaShop, then mark the case as “Refunded / completed” and the customer receives an email.

Does it replace PrestaShop’s returns?

It can: if you handle everything with Online Withdrawal, you switch off PrestaShop’s native returns in the module settings, so customers don’t find two different paths.

Does it work without Flag Theme?

Yes, on PrestaShop 9: the withdrawal page, customer account and order details work with their own styles. With Flag Theme the “withdraw from contract here” link appears in the footer by itself; with another theme it must be added to the footer template or to a link block.
