The score is indicative: it sums up the 47 automated checks on this page and is not a judgement of conformance with WCAG or the European Accessibility Act.

Where to start: the 3 main problems
Want the full picture?
This is a first impression of the home page only. The full report opens the home page, one category and one product in a real browser, on desktop and phone, and adds real colour contrast, keyboard, zoom and narrow screens. We email it to you with a private link, usually within a few minutes.

What the automated check can’t verify
Only a person can check these points. It doesn’t mean there are problems: it means nobody has looked at them yet.

How do you want to fix it? The 3 packages
The free report is a check-up: home page, one category and one product, problems explained, an indicative index and a check of the statement. To go further you can choose an accessibility document for your shop at €99, an audit done by hand by a person at €699 or ongoing monitoring at €19 a month. Prices exclude VAT.

what it is
What is website accessibility?
A website is accessible when anyone can use it, including people who can’t see, don’t use a mouse or enlarge the text: with a screen reader, with the keyboard, with 200% zoom.
Think of a customer who shops using only the keyboard, or who has the page read aloud by their phone. If the “Add to cart” button can’t be reached with the Tab key, your shop is closed to them. The rules that prevent this are called WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines): a list of international criteria, divided into levels. The reference level for websites is AA.
the law
What does the European Accessibility Act require of online shops?
Since 28 June 2025, e-commerce services sold to consumers in the European Union must be accessible, according to standards that refer to WCAG. Microenterprises are exempt: fewer than 10 employees and an annual turnover or balance sheet of up to €2 million.
The European Accessibility Act (EAA) is EU Directive 2019/882. Each member state has transposed it into national law (in Italy, Legislative Decree 82/2022). If you sell online to consumers and you’re not a microenterprise, it’s something to look at now, not in a year’s time.
This isn’t legal advice. To understand whether and how the law applies to your business, ask your adviser.
What’s the difference from the Italian AgID statement?
The AgID accessibility statement is an official Italian template with its own requirements, designed for the public sector and some large companies. Our €99 document is informative, designed for the EAA, and doesn’t replace it.
Which standard do you need to meet?
In Europe the reference is EN 301 549, which for the web corresponds to WCAG 2.1 level AA. We already work to WCAG 2.2 AA, the most recent version: it covers 2.1 and adds a few more criteria.
the check
What does the free check look at (and what doesn’t it)?
The instant check runs 47 automated tests on your site’s home page, reading the HTML code that comes from the server, and looks for the accessibility statement. The full report you get by email goes further: it opens the home page, one category and one product in a real browser, on desktop and phone, and adds real colour contrast, keyboard, zoom and narrow screens. Automated tests still only cover part of the WCAG criteria: the rest has to be checked by hand, by a person.
What it checks
- The page language is declared and valid, also for parts in another language
- The page has a title that sets it apart (not just “Home”)
- Images, icons, image buttons and image maps have alternative text, and the text isn’t the file name
- There is a single main heading (H1) and headings follow a sensible order, with no empty headings
- Form fields have a linked label (not just a mouse tooltip), multiple-choice groups have their question and personal data fields have autocomplete
- Buttons and links have a name, links aren’t generic like “click here”, aren’t repeated towards different pages and warn when they open a new tab
- Header, menu, main content (just one) and footer are recognisable, and there is a link to skip to the content
- Data tables have headers and embedded content (videos, maps) has a title
- ARIA roles and references are valid, no buttons marked as decorative, no hidden elements reachable with Tab, no duplicate linked ids
- No forced tab order, no duplicate keyboard shortcuts and no zoom blocking on smartphones
- No pages that reload by themselves, blinking text or audio that starts by itself; videos with captions and audio with a transcript to check
- Text contrast, when colours and background are written directly in the HTML
What it can’t check
- Whether colour contrast is readable everywhere, over photos and gradients
- Whether the whole shop can be used with just the keyboard, checkout included
- What screen reader users actually hear
- Whether alternative text describes the right thing
- Content that appears later, with JavaScript (filters, cart, pop-ups)
- Whether the page holds up at 200% zoom without cut-off parts
That’s why the score is indicative: it tells you where to start, not whether the site conforms. For the part a machine can’t see, there’s the full manual audit.
the fixes
Who fixes accessibility problems on PrestaShop?
We do, directly in your PrestaShop shop’s theme, templates and modules, after the audit and with a quote before we start.
- Alternative text for images and product pages
- Contrast of text and buttons
- Keyboard navigation, with focus always visible
- Contact, registration and checkout forms with clear labels and error messages
- Menus and category filters usable without a mouse
- Checkout tested with a screen reader
If your theme is old and needs replacing, take a look at a PrestaShop theme already designed for WCAG 2.2 AA. For everything else there’s Flag’s PrestaShop support. And if you’re thinking of rebuilding your shop from scratch, accessibility is already built into our PrestaShop e-commerce development.
The free check works on any website, not just PrestaShop.
us first
Is our own website accessible?
We work at it every day: this site is designed and checked against WCAG 2.2 AA, and we write down the limits we know about in our statement.
We don’t ask you to do anything we don’t do at home first. Read the flagagency.it accessibility statement.
faq
Frequently asked questions about website accessibility
Does my online shop have to be accessible?
Very probably yes, since 28 June 2025, if you sell to consumers in the European Union and you’re not a microenterprise, meaning you have at least 10 employees or an annual turnover or balance sheet over €2 million. That’s what the European Accessibility Act requires. This isn’t legal advice: for your specific case, ask your adviser.
Is the free check enough to be compliant?
No. Automated tests only find some of the problems and the score is indicative, not a judgement of conformance. To know whether your shop can be used with just a keyboard or with a screen reader, a person has to try it: that’s what the €699 + VAT full manual audit does.
How much does it cost to make a website accessible?
It depends on how many problems it has. To get started, the accessibility document costs €99 + VAT, the full manual audit €699 + VAT and monitoring €19 + VAT a month. We estimate fixes to the theme, templates and modules after the audit and send you a quote before we start.
Do I have to rebuild my website from scratch?
Hardly ever. Usually the theme, a few templates and some modules are fixed: alternative text, contrast, form labels, keyboard navigation. Rebuilding everything only makes sense if the shop is already outdated for other reasons. After the audit we tell you what to fix, in what order and how much it costs.
Is an accessibility plugin or widget enough?
No. A widget adds a panel to the site with options like bigger text or different colours, but it doesn’t fix the code: if a button can’t be reached with the keyboard, it stays unreachable. On its own it doesn’t make a site accessible. Barriers are removed by fixing the theme, templates and modules.
Which standard do I need to meet?
In Europe the reference standard is EN 301 549, which for websites corresponds to WCAG 2.1 level AA. WCAG are the international guidelines for web accessibility. We already work to the more recent version 2.2 AA, which includes all the 2.1 criteria.
Do you need my site logins for the check?
No. The free check only needs your site’s public address: it reads the page as a visitor sees it, without passwords or logins. Logins are only needed if you then decide to have us fix the problems, and in that case we ask you for them in the safest way. Never write them in the site’s forms.
